Thánh Phanxicô Xaviê

Từ ngày 03/01 đến 02/02 năm 2018 sắp tới, thánh tích của thánh Phanxicô Xaviê  – cánh tay phải của ngài – sẽ được tôn kính tại 14 thành phố của Canada. Chuyến thánh du này được Tổng Giáo phận Ottawa cùng với dòng Tên tại Canada và phong trào CCO Mission Campus – một phong trào quốc gia có sứ vụ truyền giảng Tin mừng tại các đại học – cùng tổ chức. Đức Tổng Giám mục Terrence Prendergast, dòng Tên, của Tổng Giáo phận Ottawa nói: “Thánh Phanxicô Xaviê là một trong những vị thánh được kính nhớ nhất của mọi thời đại. Ngài là một người có đức tin và lòng can đảm phi thường, một người hết lòng chia sẻ Tin mừng của Chúa Giêsu Kitô với hàng ngàn người khắp Đông Nam Á, Goa và Ấn độ.” Các nhà tổ chức chuyến thánh du tin rằng đây có lẽ là lần đầu tiên thánh tích này đến Canada. Cánh tay phải của thánh Phanxicô Xaviê thường được giữ trong một hòm đựng thánh tích và trưng bày cho các tín hữu tại nhà thờ Chúa Giêsu ở Roma, còn thân thể ngài đang được giữ tại Goa. Từ khi thánh nhân qua đời vào năm 1552, toàn bộ thân thể cũng như cánh tay phải của thánh nhân không bị tan rã như thường thấy. Người ta dự kiến sẽ có hơn 100 ngàn người đến kính viếng thánh tích của thánh Phanxicô Xaviê, là con số tương tự với số người thánh nhân đã rửa tội bằng cánh tay và bàn tay phải này. Angèle Regnier, người đồng thành lập phong trào CCO Mission Campus nói: “Dành thời gian đến kính viếng thánh tích như thế này có thể mang lại cho chúng ta nhiều lợi ích. Đây là cơ hội để đào sâu mối liên hệ của chúng ta với Chúa và hiểu rõ hơn ơn gọi và mục đích của chúng ta trong cuộc sống.” Cô cho biết mình rất vui khi cộng tác vào việc tổ chức chuyến thánh du này để mọi người dân Canada có thể đến cầu nguyện trước thánh tích. Thánh Phanxicô Xaviê sinh ngày 07/04/1506 và được xem là thuộc nhóm thành lập dòng Tên. Thánh nhân đã trải qua phần lớn đời tu của ngài tại Á châu, đặc biệt tại các thuộc địa của thực dân Bồ đào nha, và tại Ấn độ và Nhật bản. Ngài là nhà truyền giáo đầu tiên đến Nhật. Thánh nhân qua đời ngày 03/12/1552 tại đảo Thượng san, ngoài khơi Trung quốc, là nơi mà thánh nhân mong ước đến truyền giáo. Thánh tích của thánh Phanxicô Xaviê sẽ đến các thành phố sau: Ottawa, Québec, St. John’s, Halifax, Antigonish, Kingston, Toronto, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Régina, Calgary, Vancouver, Victoria và Montréal.
